The Power of Photography

This picture melts me.

It made all of the effort worth it.

To go back to the same place where we took pictures five years ago.

Because in a blink of an eye, we can go from this…

To this…

While we are rushing around living our lives, this…

The power of photography is that it can freeze moments, grab an experience and save it for yourself and future generations.

But it is especially powerful when it captures more than the just outside…

It grabs pieces of personality

and the bond that can be found between people, especially fathers and their daughters.

It can balance that delicate line of little girl and grown up.

I am so thankful that we took the time to capture this point in our lives.  This was more intentional than the everyday candid shots, but it was done with ease and with fun.

It seems like today being Labor day is causing me to think so much about time. It is such a marker – end of summer. It really feels like it was just Memorial Day.

I certainly don’t know how to slow it down, so I guess the best we can do is enjoy the journey.

Thanks so much for reading and allowing me to share part of our story.

  1. These photos are beautiful! I often find myself rushing through life. It’s nice to have a reminder to stop and look at where I am and where I’ve been.

  2. Laura,
Just beautiful. This made me remember to call tomorrow and make the appointment to have my grand loves photographed. My 3d baby just turned 3 months. I can’t believe how she has changed in such a short amount of time. Thanks for sharing these pictures of you and your beautiful family.

  3. These are so pretty, Laura. I too wish time would slow down!!! I really do try to make the most of the time I have with my kids and hubby. Don’t know about you, but I am completely dreading school starting tomorrow. My middle is off to high school (4 more years til graduation and that will be gone in a blink of an eye) and my baby is off to kindergarten. Not liking that one bit. My oldest just turned 24 a few months ago. Times and things sure have changed with the schools and not liking it.

  4. Does make you think about what we are doing with our moments. They just don’t stop! Your images are priceless. You have a beautiful family and their personalities do certainly shine through.

  5. Wow, those pictures say it all!! What a great treasure to have. I need to start taking the time to capture the moments!! Thank you.

  6. Well said. Thanks for the reminder and for sharing your story with us. You and your hubby are doing such an amazing job with your girls. Love to you all!!! (P.S. – I’m not ready for school to start either!!!)

  7. I was just thinking the same thoughts as I watched my daughter packing up her backpack in preparation for school this morning. How she hopped out of bed early. Washed her face. Fixed her hair. Got dressed and ready … and it reminded me of the days when I got her dressed and did her hair and poured her cereal …

Beautiful pictures of such beautiful girls!

  8. Laura, your girls … and your pictures … are beautiful. The ones of them with their dad touch my heart. I have two granddaughters and love to watch them with their daddy. Pictures help us remember special times as we grow older, and how blessed you are to be able to capture these moments in such a heart warming way. I feel the reason (us) grandparents are so ga-ga over our grandchildren is because we know all too well how quickly they grow up, having experienced it with their mom or dad. Best wishes to your and yours for many, many more wonderful family moments.

  9. Laura you have such a beautiful family and you are right it all goes too fast and pictures are the best thing we have to support our memories. My husband lost his battle with cancer only 3 weeks after we found out, and the pictures that we have of our times together have been so comforting. I don’t know about you but I am rarely in our pics and as I went thru our family photos in preparation for a slide show for the memorial I realized my kids will some day wish they had more of me, so remember to get pics of you with them too! Blessings, Laura

  10. Beautiful post and beautifl photos. I am with you, feeling the time go by so quickly. I just sent my oldest son off to college last weekend…sniff, sniff. The younger one has 3yrs left of high school and I am holding on tight to every moment…they go so fast! It reminds me of one of my favorite sayings about raising children…”The days are long, but the years are short.” Thanks for sharing your lovely family and photos.

  11. Laura,

You photos are beautiful! When I saw the picture of your girls walking down the bridge from behind it gave me cold chills, it looks just like my girls. I showed the picture to my husband and he said where did you take that? I have a daughter Aubree that is 11 she is blonde with natural curls and Ali is 8 she is brunette .Thanks for sharing 🙂
