Spring Mantel Decorating Ideas & Dreaming

I am a dreamer.  A planner.  A list maker.

I keep putting myself out there, keep trying, sometimes, some might say, to a fault.

But it is just the way I am wired.

Sometimes, dreams come true.

And sometimes, actually often, we face disappointment and are let down.

No matter how bad you want it, you are let down.  And, at first it seems overwhelming.

But with time and perspective, you realize there were reasons for each part of your journey and where you are being pointed towards.

I realize more and more that those moments are still going to come.  I am still going to be disappointed.

But that is not going to stop me from being a dreamer.

It is with perspective that we can look back and realize that we have what we need where we are.  And if we don’t, there is a purpose to it.

These first few weeks of spring have left me with a cold and feeling under the weather.  I find myself looking back on my day and I am not sure what I have even accomplished.

But then I realize, I have done a lot of dreaming.

And sometimes that is just enough.

So, I will catch up.  I may be a little behind my planned for schedule and my list is short a few crossed off lines.  But I figure, the flowers and trees are a bit behind this spring too.  I know they will catch up.

And so will I.

And so will you.

Wishing you a day full of grace and thank you for reading!

  1. I believe what you are suffering from is a sorta malaise brought on by the long, cold winter. Once you’re able to be in the sunshine it will be so much better. We are fortunate enough to be able to escape to warmer weather but we are both retired and have suffered many a cold winter up North — but I have to agree I’ve never seen one this long. I enjoy your blog if only to read your introspection. Hope you have a sunny day.

  2. Love your philosophy of being a dreamer…and that is good as I cannot imagine anyone without “dreams”…and the fact that realizing things that happen, good or bad, are all a part of the “grand scheme”…A good day is filled with beautiful dreams…wonderful post…love, love the mantel and sentiment!

  3. Laura, I find your blog to be inspiring. I have always had an active and creative mind and was a vivid dreamer. Unfortunately, I was taught as a child thru let-downs and disappointment that dreams don’t often come true and that I should try to be more of a realist. But that didn’t stop me from dreaming. It wasn’t until I married my husband, Jack, that the lid on my dreams was lifted. He asked me what my dreams were and little did I know that he made notes. So over the years, in big and small ways, he’s making my dreams come true. And the same for him and our mutual dreams together. Things don’t always work out, like you said, but we keep trying. We know the strong intention of the spoken word and the power of dreaming. Thank you for this post. I hope you feel better soon! OH…your room is beautiful. I love the dance of color and light. Well done!

  4. Laura,
Since spring has been slow in coming, I too, have barely started on my 2014 TODO list. Usually by mid-April I have a long list of accomplishments I can check off. I was feeling a little guilty about getting such a slow start, but with your encouragement and the beautiful weather coming our way, I will catch up!

  5. Laura…I think you read my mind. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed by my dreams…by big and small plans…and what I want to decorate! Sometimes I feel like I’m the only one who feels that way because a lot of my friends just don’t get “me and my desires and plans”. It’s nice to know there are other people out there who are the same way. It’s comforting…and it’s comforting to know that those same people get in a slump too sometimes. Thanks for that!
